About the event
The Pathways into Construction online course is a blended, modular course aimed at UK Military Veterans and Service Leavers, both regular and reserve, who are interested in a career in the construction industry. The course will consist of an e-learning module that covers Resilience to Civvy Street, 3 days of live delivery on Microsoft Teams, and a final e-learning module focusing on Construction Employability. Subjects covered will include Military Values and Standards, Self-Leadership, Motivation, Understanding Mental Health, Strategic Communication, Online Networking, Construction CV Writing and Mock Interviews. We will be joined on the course by many guest speakers from construction and from the construction veteran community. The main beneft for the service leaver or veteran will be to gain an understanding of the UK Construction Industry and where your skills will fit, and to be exposed to a network of Tier One and Two Construction employers and their supply-chain companies. You will also gain a CSCS card.
There is no requirement to have any construction qualifications or experience and no obligation to start work in the industry at the end of the course. The cost of the course is currently met by charitable donation, so there is no requirement to pay anything to attend. However, we do ask for employed veterans and service leavers to make a donation to the charity to secure your place.
On successful completion, you will be awarded 18 months free membership of the Institute of Leadership and granted the post-nominal letters MIoL. You will also be offered the opportunity to apply for a Green CSCS card which will allow you to get on construction sites.
On enrolement, you will be granted access to the e-learning modules.
